Drop-Off Checklist
Backup - If you can, backup any critical data before drop-off. Also, please read and understand the Data Loss Liability Waiver. |
Remove Disks - Please remove any disks from your CD/DVD drive. |
Laptop - Yes! Please remember the power cord. I cannot troubleshoot on battery power alone. |
Desktop - Main system "box". Please DO NOT include any other components unless otherwise requested. Also, unlike laptops, no power cords please. |
Original Disks* - This includes your legal copy of Windows (2000, XP, Vista or 7), Anti-Virus Disk and any other disk (such as a Recovery Disk) that came with your system. If your system did not come with any disks, there may be a protected partition on your hard drive with this data. However, if you've otherwise lost or damaged the original disks, I may not be able to recover or repair your computer. |
Passwords - I need the username and password of your account(s). Also, this account must have administrator privileges. Please write it down for me. If I am restoring your system from scratch, please also include your Internet provider (Comcast, Verizon, AOL, etc.) passwords as well. |
| *Note: Microsoft and many other software vendors have implemented certain anti-piracy measures that will prevent you from installing your software on multiple computers. Please make sure the software you provide belongs with the computer you drop-off. |
| Peripherals: Any special software installed on your computer that was needed to make external devices work properly may need to be reinstalled by you. These devices include printers, wireless keyboards/mice, iPods, Palm Pilots, digital cameras, etc. Most of these items need to be physically connected to your computer before installing the software for them. |
